Royal softball clinches league title
The Lady Knights swept Riverview Thursday to clinch the league title heading into districts.
The first game was a five inning, ten-run for Royal, who beat Riverview 10-0.
Royal earned their ten runs on eight hits with one error. Ashley Baker played catch with Angie Verhey and hit 2 for 3 with two singles. Mackenzie Brown hit 2 for 4 with two singles, Kory Scroggins hit 2 for 3 with two singles and Kelsey Shearer hit 1 for 2 with a double.
In the second game, it was more of the same. Royal defeated Riverview 10-0.
The Lady Knight's ten runs came off of four hits with no errors. Again, Ashley Baker pitched to Angie Verhey. Jill Piercy hit 2 for 2 with two singles.
"Baker pitched two excellent games," said coach Bill Barker. He went on to say that his young players, Kory Scroggins among them, are playing very well.
Royal will take on Columbia-Burbank next Saturday to begin their districts run.
Warden sweeps Wahluke
In the first game, the Lady Cougars defeated the Lady Warriors 17-0.
Jennifer Kottong pitched a no hitter and threw six strikeouts.
Warden's 17 runs came off of 12 hits and one error. Stacey Ruge hit 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a triple and Marce Villegas and Amanda Martin hit 2 for 3.
In the second game, Ashton Stott pitched a one hitter and threw four strikeouts to help her team win 10-0.
The Lady Cougars had 11 hits and no errors. Cierra Kisler hit 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Jen Whitaker hit 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs and a homerun.
The win puts Warden in fourth place. They will play Goldendale next Saturday to begin their district playoffs.
Othello 10-runs Connell
The Lady Huskies took on the Lady Eagles of Connell for a single game Thursday and won 10-0.
Othello's ten runs came on 11 hits and no errors.
Franco pitched to Villegas and Garza and had five strikeouts along with a double at the plate. Other hitters included: Hannah Mohs who hit 2 for 4 with a double and a triple, Rachel Mohs hit 2 for 4 with a triple and Christine Valdez hit 2 for 4 with two singles.
The Lady Huskies will head into districts next Thursday at Othello, with their opponent to be announced.
Wahluke shuts out Highland
The Warriors will play Connell for first place in the district Saturday after defeating Highland 2-0 Thursday.
Wahluke's first goal was an own goal assisted by Jose Mendez in the 15th minute of the match. The game winner came from Jose Tlatelta in the 59th minute against Highland.
Despite beating Highland 2-0, Wahluke was out shot 8-22 and had to adjust to a field that was a mere 54 yards wide.
"Tlatelta is playing well for us," said coach Tony Langdon of Tlatelta who has been playing in lieu of an injured teammate.
Othello defeats Brewster
The Huskies took on Brewster Thursday and won 2-1.
The first goal came from Hector Alverez in the 12th minute and the second came from Julio Cerna on a breakaway in the 42nd minute. Othello was out shot by Brewster 8-15.
Brewster's lone goal came on a corner kick late in the second half but it was not enough to comeback.
Othello will play Ephrata in a loser out game on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Track & Field
Lady Tigers take second
Ephrata competed with 19 other teams, including Othello and Quincy last Friday at the Connell Invite and the girls team took second. Othello's girls team came in ninth and Quincy's came in 18th. On the boys side, Ephrata took a respectable fifth, Othello took eleventh and Quincy 17th.
