Moses Lake's seniors play their last home game

MOSES LAKE — The Lady Chiefs matched up against Kamiakin for their last home game of the season Friday and managed a split with a tough team.

The first game got off to a slow start with plenty of pitches and runners left on base.

In the top of the seventh inning, Kamiakin came out swinging. They led off the inning with two singles and it appeared they would not be able to capitalize on the two runners on base. A fly ball out was followed by a bunt to load the bases and then Moses Lake's pitcher, Heather Coulter, struck out her next batter.

Kamiakin's pitcher, Katy Jones, came to bat and hit a double that scored all three runners. The next batter, Olina Sifuentez, hit another double and scored Jones. Renae Kimbell, the next batter for Kamiakin, hit a single and brought Sifuentez home.

Coulter struck out her next opponent but the damage was done and the game ended with a score of 5-0. Coulter finished the game with 12 strike outs. Crystal Mabry hit 4 for 4 and Shayla May hit 3 for 4.

Game two began much as the first did, with neither team hitting much and the innings sliding past quickly.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Moses Lake scored first. Bailey Millican hit a double to bring Jayme Albrandt's courtesy runner, Jhenesis Garza, home.

The next score, in the top of the sixth inning, was Kamiakin's and caught both players and spectators off guard. Katy Jones, who sparked the scoring run in the first game, came to the plate and hit a solo homerun over the fence. However, her team was not able to capitalize on the momentum her hit generated and the inning ended without another score.

The top of the seventh inning opened with the score tied 1-1.

Moses Lake made short work of Kamiakin, allowing only one batter of four to find a base.

The bottom of the seventh looking promising for the Lady Chiefs. Crystal Mabry started the batting order with a single and Shayla May was walked. Heather Coulter came to the plate with two runners on base.

She nailed a double and brought Crystal Mabry home for the win, 2-1.

Coulter hit 4 for 4 and Mabry hit 3 for 4 in the second game.

Coach, Allen Coulter, had this to say after the game, "The second game was a good team effort and a good win for the seniors."
