Estefana was born April 17, 1918 in Ciudad Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She later moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where, at the age of 14, she met her future sweetheart and husband Jose R. Gonzalez. Estefana and Jose were married the year 1939 in Tamaulipas, Mexico. They lived in Edingburg, Texas until 1953 when they moved their family to Washington State.
