Wahluke defeats Naches 5-0 Tuesday

MATTAWA — Wahluke soccer is a community event and everyone came out to see the Warriors take on Naches Tuesday. The crowd got their wish as Wahluke dominated the game in every aspect and came away with a 5-0 win.

The teams started out with similar intensity but Naches was quickly out-matched and out-run by a tougher Wahluke squad.

Wahluke kept it exciting and made the game look easy. The Warriors finished the day with 23 shots on goal to Naches' 5 and Wahluke's keeper, Fernando Munoz ended his day with four saves.

Aldo Zamora found the back of the net first with a well placed shot to the corner of the goal.

Wahluke's next scoring opportunity came on a corner kick by Jairo Rubalcava but was kicked out of the air by a Naches player and then deflected off the head of another Naches player.

The next goal for Wahluke came from Paul Contreras off an assist from Jose Mendez.

Wahluke had set a quick pace early and they maintained it with the momentum from their first two goals, beating their defenders down the field time and again.

Rafael Sanchez followed up with a header in front of the Naches goal for a score.

The headers was the last score of the half and the teams retired to their respective benches with the score sitting at 3-0.

Naches came out strong in the second half but was unable to keep pace with the quick Wahluke squad.

Before the first goal of the second half, Wahluke had several scoring opportunities but were unable to find the net.

It was Aldo Zamora who struck first in the second half as well with a goal coming on the heels of a missed give and go.

Wahluke continued to rack up shots on goal and had a goal on a penalty kick waved off before another goal was scored. Halfway through the second half Sigi Pulido went down hard in a collision with a Naches player and did not return to the game. "He's [Pulido] okay. He just couldn't get a breath into his lungs," said Coach Tony Langdon after the game.

Mauro Sitio had the last goal of the match; a header into the back of the net.

The last notable scoring opportunity for Wahluke came on a penalty kick. The cross was just wide and the ball sailed over the crossbar on a header.

"We started slow but were able to pick it up as the game went on," Coach Langdon said.
