? Moses Lake boys win

second straight, girls fall

Robert Glaeser and Patrick Anderson pulled off victories for Moses Lake.

But the work of Rob Leary and Jeff Warner, and Nolan Hansen and Sam Johnson in doubles secured a 4-3 win over Davis on Tuesday at the Moses Lake High School.

Glaeser defeated Davis' Trajan Smith 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 and Anderson got the best of Louti Cantar with a 6-3, 6-2 decision. Ben Nye lost in two sets to the Pirates' Colin Bartz-Olvermann 6-3, 6-3 and Moses Lake's Andy Su lost to Abe Chang 6-3, 6-4. In doubles, Warner and Leary defeated Juan Compos and Nick Sokol in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Adrian Juarez and Davie Sawyer lost to Davis' Will Garandy and Devin Vander 6-1, 6-0; and Hansen and Johnson clinched the win with straight set 6-2, 6-3 wins over Andrew Fontana and Jeremy Turkinity.

For the girls, Moses Lake's Gabe Madson and Nikki Chambers were the lone winners as Davis finished on top 5-2 on Tuesday.

Madson took care of Angela Hauser 6-2, 6-0, while Chambers started slow, losing the first match 6-3, before winning 6-1, 6-2 to win the match. Charlene Johnson lost to Lexi Dipietro 7-6 (7-4), 6-4; and Lexi Graham fell to Davis' Nikki Hauser 6-2, 6-4. In doubles, Ashley Gessell and Michelle Karr lost to the Pirates' Heather Nay and Sandi Sokol 6-0, 6-3; Jill Baker and Diedra Kofoed lost to Naari Ha and Zoe Kunkel-Patterson 6-4, 6-1; and Briar Stevens and Gwen Stoker lost to Cara Vruacher and Aly Keightley 6-3, 7-5.

"We could have easily won as we lost," Moses Lake girls head coach Sarah Sawyer said.

? Royal has a tough night in Yakima

Excellent doubles tennis was not enough to save Royal City from a disappointing night at LaSalle. In the second girls doubles match Guijosa/Herrera played a pro match to defeat Raber/Bernath (8-3). The other girls matches were disappointing: LaSalle's Justine Hays defeated Marilyn Quintero (6-0, 6-1), Katie Paganelli of LaSalle won by forfeit, LaSalle's Byrd/Duffy defeated Kelsey and Karly Jansen (6-4, 6-4) and Gibbons/Cornell of LaSalle defeated Singer/Christensen (7-5, 6-1). On the boys side, Dahlke/Almeida teamed up to win decisively over Soto/Leija (6-1, 6-4). Pat Bustillos of Royal battled hard but was unable to put it away against David Blodgett (4-6, 6-3, 10-8). Simon Blodgett of LaSalle defeated Shaun Meseberg (6-2, 6-0) and Villa/Hebden won by forfeit. Royal plays Highland at home on Thursday.

? Wahluke's lone win makes for a long night

Dalila Jimenez secured the one win for Wahluke during Tuesday's match against Highland. She played an impressive two sets, defeated Amanda Ludwick (6-0, 6-0). Other girls scores included: Justine Gallacci's loss to Erica Capalingan (5-7, 2-6), Lopez/Ledesma's loss to Capalingan/Moore (3-6, 2-6), Diaz/Valencia's defeat by Kubishta/Martin (0-6, 2-6) and Cochran/Ornelas's loss to Nicholson/Trapp (1-6, 0-6). The Wahluke boys team was swept 0-5. Alejandro Castano was shut out by Eric Town (6-0, 6-0), Highland's John Kokita won by forfeit, Barajas/Ortiz lost to Linse/Matzke (3-6, 4-6), Stout/Morgan lost to Morrison/Myers (4-6, 1-6) and Moore/Ormberg won by forfeit.

Baseball

? Freshman wins it for Quincy

The Jacks clinched an 8-4 win over Ellensburg in the fourth inning on Tuesday night with the help of freshman pitcher Kelly Wells. Wells' pitching was sandwiched between Smoky Baughman's start and Zach Aguirre's save. Quincy had nine hits on the night accompanied by just two errors. Kasey Curnutt went 2 for 3, with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs. Andy Harris hit 4 for 4, with 1 run and 2 RBIs. Smoky Baughman went 1 for 1 on a 2 RBI double.

Soccer

? Wahluke over powers a first time Granger team

The Warriors came out kicking, despite the high winds and non-regulation soccer pitch, on Tuesday night to win 3-0 over a newly formed Granger team. Wahluke had 21 shots on goal compared to Granger's three and Wahluke keeper Fernando Munos had two saves on the night. Wahluke's first goal came in the second minute of the match — Sigi Pulido connected with Aldo Zamora for the score. Ernesto Rodriguez found the back of the net again in the 59th minute and Aldo Zamora had another goal in the 66th minute. Coach Tony Langdon said that officiating was the one low spot during an otherwise triumphant night. With a lopsided foul tally, Wahluke 27, Granger 6, the game never established the rhythm the Warriors are used to. Wahluke's next match is at home on Thursday where they will take on Kiona-Benton.

? Othello goes down in shoot out

On a cold night in Pullman, Othello lost their soccer match on Tuesday 4-2 in a shoot-out. While Othello out shot Pullman 19-17, they were unable to find the back of the net during regulation. At the end of 80 minutes the score was tied 0-0. During the shoot-out, Othello hit their first two kicks but were able to score another goal. Coach Bernie Garza said the game was defensive in nature with two excellent keepers guarding Pullman's goal.

? Knights dedicate win over KiBe to the missing

Carlos Barajas was tripped in the ninth minute of the game giving Royal City their their second goal in the game. The first came when Raoul Guerrero found Juan Salas in the 5th minute. Salas would go on to score again in the 21st and assist a goal by Guerrero in the 32nd minute. Guerrero found the back of the net in the 23rd minute as well with the help of Barajas. Ivan Arroyo, normally a goal keeper, scored a goal in the 59th minute on a Guerrero assist. Quetzal Bustos scored the Knight's last two goals of the night — one in the 68th minute with the help of Daniel Ocampo and another in the 79th minute with an assist by Ernesto Deras. In all there were 9 goals scored by Royal City compared to Kiona-Benton's 2. Coach Darren Christensen said the team wanted to dedicate tonight's game to two fallen classmates.

Softball

? Warden splits with

Cle Elum

The Lady Cougars looked to have earned a win in the first game when Cle Elum staged a comeback, with seven hits in the seventh inning. Jennifer Kotong threw 10 strike-outs in the losing effort. Ashton Stott led Warden to a win in the second game from the mound and at the plate — she hit 2 for 2 with 4 RBIs. Sierra Kisler hit 4 for 5 on the night with a triple in the second game. Jennifer Whitaker hit 3 for 4 with 2 triples on the night. Katherine Martin hit 2 for 2 and Amanda Martin hit 3 RBIs.

? Royal wins a no-hitter

Ashley Baker faced 15 batters Tuesday night and struck out 10 of them. She walked just three to help the Lady Knights earn a 10-0 victory over Goldendale. Kelsee Shearer went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs on the night and Joelle Herod hit 1 for 3 with a single. Royal City had one error that was committed during an exchange between the pitching mound and first base. The Lady Knights will face Granger on Thursday night.
