Moses Lake track and field third at relay meet

Moses Lake boys placed third in the Wenatchee relay track meet on Saturday. The boys took first in five events including pole vault, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. The Lady Chiefs placed eighth with their highest placing, fourth, coming in the long jump. Moses Lake's next meet is on Saturday at Ephrata.

Softball

Lady Chiefs split with Kennewick

Moses Lake played a double-header against Kennewick and each squad took one game on Friday. In the first game, Heather Coulter pitched a five-hit shutout with six strike outs. Lindsey Rossell had two hits and one RBI. The only run in the first game was plated by Shelley McCuistion with two outs in the top of the seventh. McCuistion had two hits with a double and Crystal Mabry had two hits in the first game.

In the second game, Kennewick came back swinging to take a 6-0 win. Coulter had two hits, McCuistion had two hits and Crystal Mabry had one hit.

The Lady Chiefs play Richland, who went undefeated in league last year, on Thursday.

Warden opens the season with league win

Jennifer Kotong gave up one hit in six innings with 14 strike outs. Kotong also hit 2-for-4 with an RBI. T.J. Mora had an RBI double in the seventh and Marce Villegas had two runs and three stolen bases.

The Lady Cougars will meet Cle Elum on Tuesday.

Othello plays a disappointing tripleheader

In their first game, Othello beat Elma 15-6.

Nina Gonzales, Rachel Mohs, Donna Franco and Rocky Perez combined for 11 hits and no errors. Jenna Rosenberg had the lone triple in the game.

The second game was a 6-0 loss to Colville with Misty Adams pitching five innings and Jenna Rosenberg finishing the last two. The two pitchers gave up 6 runs, 4 hits and no errors.

The final game of the day was a 2-1 loss to Lake Stevens. The game went 11 innings and Othello put up a fight against a 4A team.

Michelle Wheeler pitched four innings with Nina Gonzales finishing out the game. Othello was able to get one run on nine hits. Perez hit 2-for-5 with a double and a triple.

Othello is at Lakeside next Saturday.

Ephrata loses to Lakeside

The Lady Tigers lost a dreary game on Lakeside on Saturday 5-1. Ephrata had two double plays on the day and three hits.

Friday the Lady Tigers host Kiona-Benton.

Soccer

Wahluke goes down 2-1

Wahluke lost their first league match on Saturday to Connell. Wahluke struck first with a goal by Aldo Zamora, assisted by Ernesto Rodriguez, in the 34th minute but was not able to hold on to the lead. Connell scored on a disputed penalty kick in the 67th minute and scored again in the 78th minute.

Wahluke goalkeeper Fernando Munos had four saves on the day. Connell out shot Wahluke 10-9.

Coach Tony Langdon said weather was a challenge and hopes to see his team continue to improve.

Wahluke faces Granger at home on Tuesday.

Ephrata sweeps Ellensburg, Omak

Humberto Mendoza and Edgar Pichardo were on target last weekend.

Both Ephrata soccer players combined for five of the eight goals the Tigers scored in 4-3 wins over Ellensburg (Friday) and Omak (Saturday).

In the first game, Ellensburg jumped out to an early 3-2 lead off straight goals from Mario Mengulia, before Pichardo hit his second goal of the game to force overtime. In the extra regulation, Frankie Navarro scored to give the Tigers a 4-3 win.

Against Omak, Mendoza opened the game with a goal, then Kai Hirz and Navarro added goals each to put the Tigers up 3-1. Pichardo kicked in the final goal on a penalty kick for the win.

Tennis

Moses Lake boys win decisively against Kennewick

Saturday was an outstanding day for Moses Lake Tennis. In 16 sets of tennis the boys team lost only 4 sets and gave some players their first taste of victory.

Freshman Ben Nye held off three match points to come back and earn his first varsity win against Kennewick's Allan Ta (1-6, 6-2, 7-6).

Senior Robert Glaeser has the best match of the night winning a third set tiebreaker against Johnny Bickingham (6-4, 3-6, 7-6).

Davie Sawyer and Adrian Juarez teamed up for a doubles win, to give Juarez his first tennis victory (6-2, 6-3).

Other matches of the night included Patrick Anderson's win over Ali Ta (6-3, 6-0), Raul Asfour's loss to Kyle Smart (0-6, 2-6), Rob Leary and Jeff Warner's win over Nick Apawason and Brian Nielsen (6-1, 6-2), and Nolan Hansen and Sam Johnson's win over Vince Garcia and Richard Wiltse (6-1, 6-1).

Warriors celebrate lone win over La Salle

Wahluke's Dalila Jimenez took home the only win of the match for Wahluke, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-3.

Other matches included Alejandro Castano's loss to David Blodgett (2-6, 1-6), Kyle Stout's loss to Simon Blodgett (0-6, 0-6), Javier Barajas and Emanuel Ortiz's loss to Alex Soto and Ryan Leija (2-6, 3-6), Justine Gallacci's loss to Justine Hays (2-6, 6-3, 1-6), Lyn Lopez and Rebecca Ledesma's loss to Nicole Byrd and Jill Duffy ((4-6, 3-6), Renda Diaz and Alejandra Valencia's loss to Karley Raber and Kristin Bernath (4-8), and Sarah Cochran and Edith Ornelas's loss to Carlee Gibbons and Holly Sawyer (3-8).

Baseball

Quincy, Brewster tie after five-inning rainout

The Jacks began a solid day of baseball on Saturday playing tough defense and covering the field well. Zach Geary pitched for Quincy, giving up 2 runs and ending the day with 2 errors. Scott Yeats hit 2 for 2 on the day. The two runs for Quincy came off of a two run double from Colby Melburn. Coach Pat McGuire said the team was glad for the experience but would have liked to finish in the game out. The game was called in the fifth inning due to inclement weather.
