Cougars struggle on the green

QUINCY — Warden and Quincy went head-to-head at Sage Hills Golf Course for nine holes Thursday afternoon. Quincy came out with the win with a team score of 187 to Warden's 209. The Lady Cougars did not put up a team score while the Quincy squad combined for a score of 246. Scott Michelson, of Quincy, took the individual prize with a score of 45.

Tennis

Othello girls come out on top

Othello and Ephrata faced off in 10 tennis matches on Thursday afternoon. The Othello girls came out swinging and swept their matches 5-0 against the Lady Tigers. The Ephrata boys took the day from the Huskies winning all five matches.

Ephrata coach Ed Hamlett said he was thrilled to see the Lady Huskies play excellent early season tennis and hopes for continued improvement from both the girls' and boys' teams as the season progresses.

Soccer

Royal suffers tough loss

The Knights lost to Naches 6-2. Royal City began the night well, scoring in the first and ninth minutes of the first half, but could not keep up the pace.

The Knights took 11 shots on goal but could not find the hole after jumping to a 2-0 lead. Silvano Ramos put in his fourth goal of the season and provided an assist for Royal. The Knights will play their first league game against Naches on Saturday.

Wahluke comes out kicking

QUINCY — In their first game of the season the Warriors took home a 2-0 win against Quincy.

Wahluke outshot Quincy 16-4 and scored a goal in each half of play. Aldo Zamora, assisted by Sigi Pulido, put one in the back of the net 12 minutes in. The second goal came with time winding down; Sigi Pulido scored just after the 59 minute mark. Coach Tony Langdon was pleased with his young team. Their next game is against Connell Saturday and will kick off their league matches.

Hard fought loss for Othello

PROSSER — Prosser came at Othello hard on Thursday night, scoring two goals in the first half. Othello tried to stage a comeback with a goal at the 75 minute mark but were not able to tie it up. Othello was out shot 10-12, but Coach Bernie Garza was optimistic about his team. He pointed out that his two forwards, Jose Martinez and Freddy Ramos, have been playing well and hopes to see them continue to improve. Othello's next game is a non-league match at Pullman Tuesday night.

Baseball

Sunnyside gets the best of Quincy

SUNNYSIDE — The Quincy Jacks came in with a disadvantage. Sunnyside was three games deep into the season, while the Jacks were making their first appearance of the season.

The result: the Grizzlies topped Quincy 13-3 in six innings.

Derek Uberagua pulled a double-whammy on the Jacks, pitching six innings, allowing three runs and seven hits from the mound and drove in six runs on 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs.

For the Jacks, Kasey Curnult had a run and a double and went 2-2. Andy Harris had an RBI and a double and Smoeky Baughman had a double and run scored.
