Royal Knights go down

Royal City lost a hard-fought game to Okanogan 9-6 on Tuesday night. Coach Paul Olsufka hopes the team will improve its depth of pitching in the doubleheader on Saturday against Zillah. Ray Valle hit 2 of 4 and scored 2 runs. He had a double and a stolen base to round out his night. The Knights had 6 hits and 2 errors.

Softball

ML shakes off cobwebs in jamboree Moses Lake played the part of the bigger school in its jamboree with Othello, Royal and Warden, but all they were trying to accomplish was shaking off the cobwebs Tuesday night at Larson Playfield.

Othello took the Chiefs to a 0-0 tie, but Bailey Millican was credited with the game-winning RBI to down Warden 1-0 and Heather Coulter and Mattie Zayas combined for three RBIs to top Royal 6-1.

"We hit the ball well today," head coach Alan Coulter said. "The extra batting practice has paid off."

Warden softball gets rid of first-game jitters

The Lady Cougars participated in a softball jamboree on Tuesday with hopes of getting some of the kinks out.

They suffered defeats against Moses Lake and Othello and tied 0-0 with Royal City. Warden coach Wes Richins was philosophical about the day saying, "These games were to get rid of the first-game jitters before the first game."

He treated the three, two-inning match-ups as an opportunity to break-in new players and reawaken the more experienced members of the squad. Pitching was the shining moment of the day with showings by Jennifer Kottong, Ashton Stott and Kelsey Garner.

Royal suffers at Jamboree

Royal City participated in a softball jamboree on Tuesday with three other local teams. Their 0-0 tie with Warden was the best they could hope for on a dreary day. The Lady Knights fell to Othello 5-0 and to Moses Lake 4-1. Coach Bill Barker hopes to improve the defense for the upcoming season.

Tennis

Royal boys fair well

In their first match of the season, the Knights won 3-2 against a scrappy Goldendale team.

The best moment of the day came when the doubles team of Bustillos/Meseberg was able to rally back to win their first set 7-6 and the second 6-2. There was a singles sweep for the men. The Lady Knights did not fair as well on Tuesday with a 5-0 loss to Goldendale. Royal City coach Rich Gregoire feels as though he has a solid men's team and that with eligibility and experience both the men's and women's teams will continue to improve throughout the season.

Soccer

Huskies battle hard

The Othello soccer team lost their non-league match Tuesday against Connell 2-1.

While the Huskies out shot Connell 21-12, they simply could not get a clear shot at the goal. Connell struck first with both goals coming in the first half. After the break Othello rallied with the lone goal by Julio Cerna. Othello had numerous give and go opportunities was unable to capitalize and finished the day with 3 yellow cards. Coach Bernie Garza hopes to improve the team's shooting skills in preparation for their game against Prosser on Thursday.
