Take in the Steamers Invitational in five games

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Walleyes played five games over the weekend to win the Anacortes Steamers Invitational Tournament. The tournament was a sweep for the Walleyes and gave their team a boost after the split with the Dusters last week.

In the first game against Vancouver, Walleyes' Derik LaFave pitched a shut out, giving up just six hits in the 8-0 win. Pablo Correa went 2 for 4 and was named the game's most valuable player. Other key hitters in the game included Josh Munoz, who was 2 for 4 with a double, Zane Bator went 3 for 4 and Adrian Villa was 2 for 4.

Lake Stevens put up more of a fight in the second game but still fell 7-4. Bator was named MVP after drilling a three-run homer, his only hit in the game. Adrian Villa, Bryan Sanchez and Josh Munoz shared the mound, allowing only eight hits. Correa was 2 for 3 and Bryan Sanchez was 1 for 3.

The Walleyes ten-runned Bellingham in five innings in the third game. The final of 11-0 would not be the Walleyes' last shut out of the weekend. Chase Hunter, the game's MVP, and Correa pitched the five innings and gave up just three hits. Bator and Munoz were both 1 for 3 with doubles, Hunter was 1 for 3, Correa and Sanchez were 2 for 3 and Daniel Collins was 3 for 3.

Everett played good defense and held the Walleyes to just three runs in the semi-final game. However, you have to score to win and the Walleyes took the game 3-0. Bator was named the game MVP for the second time during the weekend, hitting 2 for 4 with a double. Sanchez and Munoz both hit 1 for 4 with a double, Hunter and Collins were 2 for 3 and Matt Valdez and Zack Vasquez were 1 for 3.

In the championship, the Walleyes matched up against Arlington and won 5-2. Munoz, named the game's MVP, threw 11 strikeouts and three hits and was 2 for 4 at the plate. Sanchez was 1 for 5, Correa was 3 for 5, Bator and Adrian Villa were 1 for 4, LaFave was 2 for 4 with a double and Vasquez was 1 for 3.
