Carl Smith, 64, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Monday, June 13, in Republic, Wash.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at the Moses Lake American Legion.

Cremation arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake.

Carl was born on November 30, 1940 to Paul and Betty Smith in Tacoma, Wash.

He is survived by her wife, Margaret Smith, of 14 years; mother, Betty Smith of Blaine, Wash.; two sons, Terrence Smith of Cheney, Wash. and Paul Smith of Laurel, Md.; one daughter, Debbie Smith of Cheney, Wash.; three grandchildren, one great-grandson, five stepchildren, seven step-grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers and their spouses, several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, one sister and one son.

He graduated from North Central High School in Spokane, Wash. He was in the National Guard.

Carl had a long and successful career with Pacific Northwest Bell in Moses Lake, now called Qwest. He retired in 1990.

Carl loved to fix things or, at the very least, take them apart. He was a great lover of the outdoors and spent as much time as he could in the woods at his property in Republic, Wash.

Carl will be missed by his family and friends, but we can all take comfort in the fact that Carl passed away in the woods, doing what he loved, at his cabin.
