Offensive onslaught gives Walleyes split with Dusters

MOSES LAKE — The sun was setting on the third inning of the second game in a double header for the Walleyes, who were trailing 10-5. But they were preparing to stage a comeback.

Derik LeFave was the lead-off batter, his double found a hole and dropped into it. LeFave was brought home by the next batter, Adrian Villa, who hit a double as well.

Villa would come home on a long single from Bryan Sanchez, who was brought home by Zack Kenner.

Dan Collins would walk and Taylor McNamara would single after that. Then Pablo Correa singled to bring Collins home. Matt Valdez then singled to bring in Correa.

Derik LeFave was hit by a wild pitch to send him to first and load the bases for the Walleyes.

Villa was walked and forced Valdez in for the last run of the inning for the Walleyes.

After the marathon at the plate, the Walleyes had gained an 11-10 lead over the Dusters.

The Dusters tied it up in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Sanchez singled in the last run of game, bringing in LeFave.

Valdez ended game two 5 for 5 with an RBI, LeFave was 5 for 5 with an RBI and a double and Sanchez was 4 for 4 with four RBIs and a double. Villa and Olaf Moore shared duties at the plate, playing catch with Correa.

The final score was 12-11 Walleyes.

"They had their heads down for an inning but we started scoring, got up and stayed up," said assistant coach Frank Guerrero of the comeback in the second game Wednesday.

In the first game, Jon Redford was 3 for 5 with an RBI, Zack Vasquez was 3 for 4 and Chase Hunter was 4 for 5.

The Walleyes took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning but were unable to hold on to it.

The Dusters caught up with the Walleyes in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs on five hits.

The game would end in a 7-6 loss for the Walleyes.
