Thomas (Tom) Calvin Melbye

Thomas (Tom) Calvin Melbye, 19, lifelong Moses Lake resident, died Saturday in Ellensburg in an automobile accident.

Tom was born May 8, 1986 to Michael and Sandy Melbye. He graduated from Moses Lake High School in June of 2004 and was currently attending Washington State University, in Pullman, where he was majoring in construction management. He was currently employed by Grant County Public Works as a flagger.

Tom loved basketball, baseball, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, snowboarding and skiing. He was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church youth group. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Calvin and Bernice Brown; grandmother, Carolyn J. Melbye; uncle, Thomas Owen Melbye; cousin, Lecia Ann Richard; and childhood friend, Garrett Swanson.

He is survived by his parents, Michael and Sandy, sister, Jennifer and brother, Brian of Moses Lake; grandparents, Charles and Marcella Richard of Moses Lake; aunt, Charlyne Clark of Vancouver; aunt, Kathy Mokler of Kennewick; aunt, Vivian Stark (Dale) of Moses Lake; uncle, Terry Melbye (Rhonda) of Moses Lake; uncle Scott Melbye (Rena) of Ephrata; aunt, Pam Weinstock (Rob) of Camarillo, Calif.; aunt, Kim Melbye (Greg) of Warden; cousins: Aaron (Amanda) Clark, Amanda Clark, Amanda and Allison Melbye, Melissa Mokler, Cory, Jessica and Conner Haynes, Cara and Mitch Weinstock and Johnny Melbye, along with numerous lifelong friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1020 South A. Street, Moses Lake. The reception will be immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Immanuel Lutheran youth group in Tom's name.
