Irene M. Marchand

Irene M. Marchand, 83, long time resident of Moses Lake, passed away Tuesday at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Moses Lake. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory.

Irene was born October 25, 1921 in Odessa, daughter of the late Mark and Anna (Havlicek) Smith. She was raised on the family farm north of Odessa. After completion of school in Odessa, she attended Kinman Business University in Spokane. She was married to Cecil A. Marchand on November 7,1940 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They made their home in Omak for many years before moving to Moses Lake. They both worked for the U.S. government at Larson Air Force Base. After the base closed in 1966, they moved to Bremerton and worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until they retired in 1972 and returned to Moses Lake.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James and Cheryl Marchand of Ruff; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet and Roy Turner of Hartline, and JoAnn Hochstatter of Moses Lake; two brothers and their wives, Bill & Enza Smith of Seven Bays and Don & Mavis Smith of Odessa; a sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Odessa; five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Her husband Cecil Marchand preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother Ben Smith and great-grandson, Jackson Gunning.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
