Esther Lucille Durig

| June 3, 2005 9:00 PM

Esther Lucill Durig, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 17.

She was born June 6, 1915 in Pierz, Minn. to Laurence and Marie Kramer. She lived in Minnesota until she was six years old. The family then moved out to the Portland, Ore. area where she lived the rest of her life until she moved to Moses Lake in 2001 to live with her niece and husband, Jill and Ed Macdonald.

She was married to Ralph Cheney in 1934 and divorced in 1946. She met Bill Durig, who swept her off her feet, and she married him in 1947. Bill died in 1992.

During World War II, she worked for the Forest Service in the parts department. She drove a little green pickup and also larger trucks depending on the deliveries to be made. She sewed herself a green pantsuit to match the color of the pickup. When she would arrive to make her deliveries, people would say, "Here comes the Green Hornet." She was very proud of that.

The rest of her life was spent as a housewife and she loved every minute of it. She was the "Martha Stewart" of her time. She sewed and crocheted all kinds of needlework. She enjoyed interior decorating and keeping a house spotless. Outside, in the yard, she was just as ardent about her gardening as she was about her housework.

She enjoyed her bridge clubs and going to the Spa (a local health club). After moving to Moses Lake she regularly attended First Baptist Church of Moses Lake. She was a loving, gracious lady who is now in the presence of our Heavenly Father.

There will be a Memorial Service at First Baptist of Moses Lake on Monday at 7 p.m.
