Egg drop overeasy for Warden kids
Elementary school tradition a success this year
WARDEN— Warden Elementary School fourth- and fifth-graders took part in a science experiment from great heights at the seventh annual egg drop, May 27. More than 150 students participated in the egg drop, sponsored by the Grant County Public Utility District and McCain Foods in Othello.
Every year the students create protective containers designed to keep an egg from breaking when dropped from a height of 40 feet.
Grant County PUD workers, directed by Buzz King, hoisted the eggs in their protective contraptions 40 feet up into the air using the lift on a utility truck and dropped the containers to the ground. Fourth-graders were allowed to use a parachute to help float their containers to the ground. Fifth-graders were not allowed to use parachutes, and their boxes had to beeven smaller than what the fourth-graders were allowed.
The 60 students whose eggs survived the fall and landed safely were given 30-pound bags of french fries donated by McCain Foods.
"This is really fun for the kids," said Gail Hardman, a teacher at Warden Elementary School. "And the younger students have something to look forward to."
