In person filing begins July 25

GRANT COUNTY — It's time for some Grant County elected officials to again run for office.

Some positions on Grant County's 14 city and town councils, as well as county school board and various district positions, will see their terms expire at the end of this year. For those wishing to run for the open seats, or candidates seeking re-election, the time has come to file in order to get their name on the ballot.

The filing period began Monday for candidates to file by mail for a spot on the ballot for city councils and other elected seats in Grant County. Potential candidates have until July 29 to file.

Aspiring candidates and incumbents alike can also sign up in person starting July 25 at the elections office in the Grant County Courthouse, with a filing deadline of July 29.

Faith Anderson in the elections office said the building does get a little busy during filing, with people looking to file for a spot to be a candidate on more than 60 councils and boards throughout Grant County.

"We get pretty busy during filing week," Anderson said.

Anderson said her office will likely see the most visitors on the first day of in-person filing July 25, with the final day of filing also a busy one for people wishing to become a candidate.

Anderson said policies and filing fees for different positions vary, and each candidate must live within the district they are filing for. For more information, contact the elections office in the Grant County Courthouse at (509) 754-2011.
