MOSES LAKE — For the fifth year now, the Duel in the Desert will bring in hundreds of golfers from the Northwest — and this year the event will include two celebrity golfers: Bill Krueger, former Mariners pitcher and baseball analyst and "golf nut" Joe Malay.

Hosted by the Moses Lake Golf and Country Club, the Duel in the Desert tournament and Party on the Green celebration are the Grant County Economic Development Council's sole fund-raiser of the year.

"Bill Krueger is a great addition to the celebrity line-up of the Duel in the Desert," event chairman Mark Fancher said in a EDC press release. "Krueger can not only speak about his experience as a major league player, but he can converse with Duel players and guests about today's Mariners and the league as a whole."

Krueger played in the major leagues for 16 years on eight different teams, including the '88 World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Joe Malay will also bless the golf course with his humor and vast experience. Malay, who hails from Idaho, has played in more than 1,600 tournaments and won about 200. He is also host of ABC's "Closest to the Pin."

"Joe Malay is one of the most entertaining golfers there is around," Fancher stated in the press release. "He tells the most colorful stories, shows his love for the sport, and best of all, will shake up the golfers during the tournament."

The two-day tournament, to be held Aug. 5 and 6, will also include golf clinics, a practice round and sponsor's party. The Party on the Green celebration at 7:30, Saturday under a big top tent off the 10th fairway will feature dinner and live entertainment by Men in the Making. Their high-energy show mixes '50s, '60s and '70s impersonations from Elvis to Elton John. Tickets for Party on the Green are $100.

Proceeds from the event will be used by the EDC to promote economic development and sustainable business in Grant County.
