Ray O. Flagg
Ray O. Flagg, 74, longtime Moses Lake resident and businessman, passed away Monday, Jan. 24 at LakeRidge Special Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Eagles Lodge in Moses Lake with Don Davidson officiating. A potluck will follow. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory.
Ray was born on Sept. 17 in Denver, Colo. to Alberta Ray Flagg and Flossie Mabel (McDonald) Flagg. He settled in Washington as a young boy, and attended school near Onalaska, Wash. He joined the Army Air Corp at the age of 15, and served seven years. He then met and married Fay Massey on Aug. 22, 1952. He graduated from Central Washington University in 1959. Ray taught for one year at Orofino High School in Orofino, Idaho, then taught eight years in the Moses Lake schools. He then worked for six years in the U.S.D.A. as a processed food inspector.
In 1975, Ray and his wife Fay bought the Moses Lake Cab Company, which they operated for 25 years. He also worked for the Moses Lake Job Corps for eight years while running the cab and limo service. He loved teaching and working with teenagers, and loved learning and reading about geology.
Ray is survived by his wife, Fay Flagg, Moses Lake; four children, Darwin (Marisha) Flagg, Hopkins, S.C., Delbert (Brenda) Flagg, Lewiston, Idaho, DeAnna LeVoie, Moses Lake, and Dennis (Jan) Flagg, Kent; two sisters, Evelyn Jorgenson, California and Pearl Beesler, Arizona; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Nathanial) Galloway, Moses Lake, D.J. (Whitney) Flagg, Lewiston, Idaho, and Amanda Flagg of Lewiston, Idaho; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray did not have any brothers, but he had 10 of Fay's brothers that he loved as his own. He also had Fay's two sisters that he loved as much as his own sisters. Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Goethals, and his parents.
