MOSES LAKE - Nathan Stanley said the only disappointing part about Thursday's win over Wenatchee was the two losses Moses Lake suffered in the process.

But that might have been a little selfish, the Moses Lake first year head coach said.

"We have a tendency as coaches to be greedy, but I think the kids are continually improving," Stanley said. "It has been a steady improvement the length of the season."

Anthony Vela (119) and Jordan Hill (130) each suffered losses for the Chiefs, but it was Moses Lake who put the Panthers away in a 60-9 win.

Vela's loss was against Cesar Iniquez, who finished second at 119 pounds in state last year.

"Anthony beat him early in the year and it showed what he needs to work on," Stanley said. "If I know Anthony, he is going to use it to get better."

Vela caught Iniquez on a takedown at the end of the first period to take a 2-0 lead after two minutes of wrestling, but Iniquez answered with six straight points in the second period to take a 6-2 lead.

Vela pulled off an escape and was awarded two stalling points against Iniquez in the third, but Iniquez scored a takedown at the end of the third period to win 8-5.

It was Wenatchee's first win of the match after losing the previous four.

The duel started at 215 pounds and Brett Frederickson pinned the Panthers' Micheal Zacher in 1:20 for Moses Lake.

Warren Jones followed at 275 with a late third round pin over Nic Fisher after taking a 6-0 lead on the Wenatchee wrestler. For Jones, it was his second win in as many tries since taking fourth-place at the Pacific Northwest Classic on January 8.

"He has worked so hard this year," Stanley said. "He has been behind in second or third string his whole career and because of an injury, he got to move up a weight class and because of that, he has really improved."

Moses Lake's John Silva scored a 15-8 win over Tim Cook at 103 pounds and Joe Vela followed with an early second round pin over Edgar Arroyo at 112 pounds after reeling in a 17-3 lead on the Wenatchee wrestler.

Following Anthony Vela's loss at 119 pounds, Sean Hoiness needed 1:11 to pin Wenatchee's Jose Ruiz-Garcia at 125 pounds. Hill fell to Tim Whitley in the second round at 130 pounds.

From there, the Chiefs won the next seven matches.

Cody Hoiness pinned Jareht Reavely in 53 seconds at 135 pounds for Moses Lake, Trevor Cole defeated Malcom Velazquez with a final of 7-0 at 140 pounds, Thomas Courtright pinned Wenatchee's Owen Lamb in the second round at 145 pounds and Ty Payne went into two overtimes to defeat Ronnie Lamb at 152 pounds.

A.J. Harra pinned Wenatchee's Cody Varner midway through the second period at 160 pounds and Moses Lake's John Fackrell defeated Jack Daines 7-1 at 171 pounds.

Stevie Vasquez finished the night with the eighth pin for Moses Lake, taking out Luke Robbins with 15 seconds left on the clock in the second period.

"The kids are working hard and we are doing the right thing," Stanley said, describing the lopsided win over Wenatchee.
