Donna Jean Irish

Donna Jean Irish, 80, died April 8, 2004 with her daughter and caregivers at her side in her residence on the Peninsula of Lake Almanor.

Donna was born to Eddie and Maude (Davis) Irish in Arcata on Dec. 11, 1923.

She graduated from Humboldt State where she obtained a bachelor's degree in nursing. She married Dr. Edgar M. Allen M.D. and became an integral part of his practice in Warden, where Donna resided for 20 years.

She moved to Lake Alamanor area in 1980, following her marriage to Gerald William Melville Irish.

She was active in the Chester Lake Almanor community where she attended the Chester Community United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee and as a volunteer secretary for a number of years. She was active with Sierra Hospice and also served as a longtime volunteer at Forget-Me-Not Thrift Store and at Helping Hands, a food source for the needy located in Chester.

She was a longtime member of the National Audubon Society and enjoyed watching the animal and plant life from her deck at her home. She enjoyed all types of crafts and donated items to be sold at the Chester Community United Methodist Church's annual bazaar.

She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald.

Donna is survived by her daughter Barbara Jean Brown of Rochester, N.Y.; son Ronald Arthur Allen of Everett; stepson Jay Irish of Livermore; and one grandson.

Following cremation in Quincy, a celebration of Donna's life was held at the Chester Community United Methodist Church on April 14.

Private scattering of her remains will take place at a later date.
