Paul D. Ambrose, 79, passed away Jan. 4, at Samaritan Hospital. Born Paul Dorn Stilgebouer, to Glen and Lucy (Lincoln) Stillgebouer at McCook Nebraska, on June 8, 1925, he has no known survivors.

Paul entered the United States Navy while under-age with parental consent, and then entered the United States marine Corps. He participated in the Battle of Tarawa in Nov. of 1943, and, for gallantry in action, during the Battle of Saipan in June 1944, he was awarded the Silver Star. He was also awarded the Purple Heart for shrapnel wounds he received in that battle. His record shows that his unit while with a scout element of a rifle platoon advancing up a thickly wooded slope, his unit became pinned down by enemy fire. Although wounded, Paul disregarding his painful condition crawled forward until he was able to fire point blank into the machine gun nest and enabling his platoon to take their objective without further casualties. Paul was honorably discharged July 26, 1945. Paul loved horses and worked as a stockman most of his life.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 13, with his close friends and neighbors in attendance at Benson Family Funeral Services Chapel Cemetery and Crematory
