Othello teen dies after fight
Peralta remembered for bringing cheer
OTHELLO — Friends remember Charlie Peralta for his infectious smile, a person who made every situation fun.
The 17-year-old high school student brought his cheerfulness to his youth group at the Othello Nazarene Church, and as a singer in the Othello High School Jazz Choir.
Charlie died Monday night, from injuries he suffered in a fistfight late Sunday. He was taken to Othello Community Hospital after his head struck the pavement on Rainier Road, and was later transported to Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane.
Adams County Undersheriff Kevin Fuhr said the ACSO would release more information on the situation Thursday afternoon. Fuhr said he could not comment on whether alcohol was involved in the fight, or whether charges were pending against those involved in the fight.
Charlie was an active member of his church's youth group, and Othello Nazarene Church Youth Pastor Barry McGarrah remembers that Charlie's goal was to make everyone laugh and smile.
"He was the one that knew how to bring joy into our youth group," McGarrah said.
Charlie loved to be the center of attention, and McGarrah said no matter what everyone else was doing, Charlie would make it fun.
"He always knew how to make us always laugh and smile," McGarrah said.
Charlie was also active in track and cross country at Othello High School, and was known for his love of snowboarding.
Othello High School will hold a celebration of Charlie's life at 11 a.m. Friday in the school's gym.
