Henny Maria Brooks, 91, passed away Jan. 28, 2005 at Sunbridge Care Center in Moses Lake.

Henny was born Nov. 23, 1913 to the late Johann and Jenny Lindquist in Alsvbyn, Sweden. In 1929 at the age of 15, all by herself, only speaking Swedish, she traveled to the Land of Milk and Honey by ship to New York City, then train to Tacoma, Wash. Her Aunt Betty and a new life in America were waiting.

In the early 1930's, she met and married Orlin R. Otis and had two children, Roland and JoanMarie. Unfortunately, the marriage didn't last. In 1943, she began working at Madigan Army Hospital, taking care of GIs who had been wounded and/or prisoners of war. There she met and married Charles Brooks. They were married for 17 years. Henny retired from the Madigan Army Hospital in 1981 — after 37 years.

Henny lived in Tacoma for over 66 years. In September 1995, she moved to Moses Lake to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Jessie and Joanie Green, and to play bingo!

Henny is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roland and Karen Otis of Gig Harbor; her daughter and son-in-law, Jessie and Joanie Green of Moses Lake; seven grandchildren: Jeff Otis (Gig Harbor), Jill Green-Rowley (Moses Lake), Joel Green (Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii), Tami Otis-Lovering (Pembroke, N.H.), Teena Otis-Roehl (Graham), Justine Green (Moses Lake) and Jason R. Green (Edmonds); 12 grandchildren: Bryce, LaniMarie, Marissa, Christopher, JaimieMarie, Jessie, Maceyn, Dayton, Joelee, Skyler, Katie and Kim.
