MLCA runs away from Entiat for win

MOSES LAKE — The Lions defeated Entiat 71-53 in their annual Christmas Basketball Tournament.

"It was a good team effort," said head coach Lonnie Brown. "I'm happy with the balanced scoring. We had four people in double digits."

Moses Lake came out slow in the second half and had to weather a nine point scoring run.

Philip Friehe scored the first point of the half from the line, shooting 1 for 2.

Josh Munoz was teed' up with three minutes left in the third for player misconduct. Munoz was called for grabbing the rim after a layup by David Timofeyev.

At the end of the third the score stood 56-32.

Moses Lake began the game with an 8-0 scoring run with Timofeyev, Munoz and Riggs Yarboro all contributing.

The run was stopped by a three from Entiat.

The Lions continued to put on a scoring workshop for their opponents and spectators alike.

Taylor McNamara drained a jumper for two to ignite the crowd and make the score 18-10.

Moses Lake scored four more and held Entiat to zero for the rest of the first quarter.

The Entiat Tigers came out of the gate after the break scoring quickly, but would not score again for nearly four minutes.

Moses Lake maintained control of the game, pushing their lead to 22, making it 45-23 at the half.

Again, Entiat opened the quarter scoring, hitting a three to begin the fourth.

With seven minutes remaining in the game, McNamara was called for an offensive foul which was immediately followed by another 3-point shot from Entiat.

The Lions continued to suffer the woes of the third quarter with two consecutive turnovers.

Friehe changed the tide for Moses Lake, hitting a three with five minutes remaining.

Moses Lake used their advantage further, extending the lead to 61-48 and forcing Entiat to call a timeout with three minutes left.

The final score of the night came off of a layup by Timofeyev.

Munoz led the team in scoring with 16 points and had 12 rebounds. Yarboro had 14 points and 14 rebounds. David Timofeyev had 12 points. Friehe had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Daniel Timofeyev had six assists.
