Driver receives minor injuries to eyes from glass

GEORGE — A wayward cow made its way onto the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 in George Monday night, totaling two vehicles and sending one man to a nearby hospital.

Laurence S. Stockton, 51, of North Bend, was transported to Quincy Valley Hospital by ambulance for glass in his eyes after he swerved to avoid a cow and his 1995 Dodge Caravan rolled onto its side and off the road, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A second vehicle, a 1993 Chevrolet pickup driven by Larry E. Loth of Granite Falls, had been following the Dodge and struck the cow when the Dodge swerved, the WSP said. Loth was not injured, but his car was reportedly totaled in the accident.

Troopers responded to both accidents at milepost 150 on I-90 shortly before 5:30 p.m.

The cow was killed and investigators recovered an ear identification tag.
