OPD seeking help capturing suspect

OTHELLO — Police are searching for suspects after an unknown man robbed an Othello gas station cashier at gunpoint Friday night.

The Othello Police Department responded to the Conoco at 860 E. Main Street, after an armed man wearing a ski mask and brandishing a handgun reportedly got away with an undisclosed amount of cash shortly before 11 p.m.

OPD Sgt. John Pierre said in a news release that the subject is believed to be a Hispanic male in his mid-20s, and fled the store on foot. He later reportedly entered an unknown vehicle parked at a nearby station. The OPD said the subject was heard yelling at another person before two car doors slammed shut and the vehicle fled the scene.

The subject is described as 5-foot-8 and 180 pounds, and was wearing dark clothing and a ski mask.

Pierre is encouraging anyone who saw a suspicious vehicle near the Conoco, located on the corner of Ninth Avenue and Main Street, to call the department at (509) 488-3314.

OPD officers last responded to an armed robbery at the Leprekon grocery story in late November. The department has previously suggested that businesses take precautions to limit losses in such robberies, and has said officers would be willing to assist businesses with their security practices.

The OPD was not available for comment Monday morning.
