MOSES LAKE — The Chiefs continued to dominate the mat Thursday, defeating Ike 75-6 and pinning almost every opponent.

"We had a shot at shutting them out tonight," said head coach Jamie Wise. "This (the win) was kind of expected."

Brett Frederickson got things started in the heavyweight class with a take down. At 1:17 Frederickson pinned his opponent to take the dual.

Wrestling at 103, Tyler Vela was next on the mat for the Chiefs. Vela was up 3-2 with time winding down in the first period when he got the pin to take the match.

"We thought they would come out better tonight, now that they have had a match," Wise said.

Roberto Cruz won the 112 bout by default. At 140, Cody Hoiness also won his match by default.

Matt Palmer took his 119 bout, pinning his opponent, with just 20.3 seconds left in the first period.

The 125 weight class gave the crowd their first taste of battle Thursday. Gabe Guzman took a 2-0 lead in the first period and extended it to a 5-0 lead by the end of the second period. In the third period, with 14.7 seconds on the clock, Guzman pinned his opponent for the win.

Wrestling at 130, Sean Hoiness jumped out to a 4-1 lead early in the first period of his match. Hoiness got the pin with 50.3 seconds left in the first period.

Jordan Hill stretched his match for three periods but was dominant in each two-minute round. In the first period, Hill earned an 8-0 lead that included two three-point near falls. At the end of the second Hill was up 14-0. As the third period began Hill scored an escape to end the match at 15-0.

In the 145 weight class, Jacob Hittinger got off to a slow start for the Chiefs and was pinned with 19.2 left in the second period.

"They came out and did what was expected of them," Wise said.

Thomas Courtright took a little more than one period to pin his opponent in the 152 weight class. Courtright took a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period and with 1:29 left in the second, scored the pin.

Trevor Cole, wrestling at 160, wasted no time with his opponent, pinning him after 37 seconds.

"They all wrestled pretty well," said Wise.

Wrestling at 171, Ty Sainsbury took a commanding 4-0 lead in the first period of his match and never looked back. Sainsbury earned another three points in the second period to make it 7-0. In the third period, Sainsbury scored a reversal and a three-point near fall to take the match 12-0.

Stevie Vasquez scored five points in the first period of the 189 match. In the second period, Vasquez worked his opponent and got the pin with 40.6 seconds remaining in the period.

In the final match of the night John Fackrell took 29 seconds to pin his opponent.

"The thing to remember in matches like this is not to let up," Wise said.

Moses Lake wrestles this weekend at the Inland Empire Tournament.

"There's no rest this week," said Wise.
