Henry "Hank" Minto Shimmin, 74, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005 at Samaritan Hospital. He was born in Butte, Mont. on July 17, 1931 to Elizabeth Minto and William Henry Shimmin. Henry was the youngest of three children. He served 22 years in the U.S. Army. During his military tour of duty in Sapporo, Japan, he met his future wife of 50 years, Yoshiko Kiriu. They were married on March 11, 1955. The family settled in Moses Lake where he worked for the Port of Moses Lake for many years.

Hank loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping and hunting and was an avid fisherman. He shared his passion for the outdoors with all his children and friends. A classic Hank moment was to hear his shout "Bingo!" when he caught a fish. This passion for the outdoors lives on within his children and grandchildren.

Hank touched many lives and is loved and remembered by many. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Minto and William Henry Shimmin; his sister Janet Likarish and her husband, Tom; and his sister Viola Kelly and her husband, Jack.

He is survived by his loving wife Yoshiko and their three children, William H., James E. and Sandra K. Shimmin; and two grandsons, Joshua R. Shimmin and Nathan H. Morgan-Shimmin.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 at Kayser's Chapel of Memories with military honors and flag presentation by his grandson, Joshua Shimmin. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake.
