Juror assesses Sculpture Without Walls
People's Choice Award winner to be named
MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Museum and Art Center recently invited Karen Kaiser, an assistant curator for education at the Jundt Art Museum, to judge Sculpture Without Walls.
The ongoing outdoor exhibit consists of various sculptures placed throughout downtown Moses Lake.
"I think it's great, I walked the whole thing. It's very comprehensive," said Kaiser. Ten artists have entered their artwork in the Sculpture Without Walls exhibit, with four each entering two pieces of art.
The art adorns downtown streets of Moses Lake until May of next year, when current pieces will be replaced with new ones.
Kaiser chose "Linkage 4" as Best of Show. W. Scott Trimble, creator of "Linkage 4," will receive $1,000 in cash for his art piece.
"I think it's a powerful and playful at the same time and reminded me of legos," Kaiser said of why she chose the piece. "It seems it was put together in a playful way. The tension and balance were great. I also liked the scale."
In second place was "Memory Net" by Roger Ralston; he will receive $750 in cash for his art piece. In third place was "Watermelon Suga" by Teresa Rowland, she will receive $500 in cash. In forth place was "Fox Trot" by Gretchen Daiber she will receive $250 in cash.
Kaiser also gave an honorable mention to "Gabriel's Whisper" by Moses Lake native Anthony Kaufman. "I really liked what I saw and it would be nice if they could all stay," said Kaiser.
A People's Choice Award will be presented at the end of this year's exhibit. The winning sculpture will be purchased as part of the exhibit's permanent collection. To vote for your favorite piece of art visit the MAC and fill out a ballot. The deadline to vote for the People's Choice Award will be April 28, 2006.
