One suspect caught in Quincy robbery

Money was not recovered, police continue search for second suspect at large

QUINCY — A 24-year-old man was arrested in Quincy Friday on suspicion of armed robbery at a local service station and drug charges while at least one other suspect remained at large in connection with the heist.

No shots were fired in the incident, no one was injured and the money was not recovered, Quincy Police Chief William Gonzales said.

Authorities reported that the Central Chevron & Deli at 603 Central Ave. South was robbed at 7 p.m. Thursday by armed subjects for an undisclosed amount of money. The suspects fled the scene.

Deputies from the Grant County Sheriff's Office and a K-9 unit from Othello converged on the scene to help track the suspects.

The K-9 unit lost the suspects' scent a short distance from the scene.

The Grant County Regional Tactical Response Team was called to the scene and helped set up a parameter around a residence in the 400 block of K Street SE where police believed the suspects were hiding.

After a raid, police were not able to locate any of the suspects.

Law enforcement used the Pioneer Elementary School parking lot as a staging area, leading Quincy School District officials to cancel all classes Friday.

"There are bus hubs in that area that they didn't want to interfere with what was going on here," Chief Gonzales said.

Authorities captured one suspect, Juan Gabriel Rodriguez Lopez of Quincy, after he tried to leave the parameter area in a vehicle through one of the police check points. He was booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of first-degree robbery, possession and manufacturing of marijuana and felony possession of a firearm.

As of Friday afternoon, Gonzales said he did not know the number of suspects involved or their possible whereabouts.
