Chiefs hold Bulldogs to tie at half

MOSES LAKE — The game started off well enough, with the Chiefs winning the tip but the Lady Bulldogs pulled ahead in the fourth quarter to win 30-22.

"We're going to start having tougher defense in practice," said coach Matt Strophy.

Pasco played solid defense to keep the Chiefs out of scoring position throughout the game.

Moses Lake struggled with offensive execution during the game.

"We had bad passes," said Strophy. "We had bad passes because we weren't setting our screens."

The Chiefs kept up with Pasco as the game progressed. At the end of the first quarter the lead was small, 10-8.

Senior guard Carrie Sawyer led the team with six points and five rebounds.

Sawyer also took advantage of her green light to pull up and attempt the three when she had the opportunity.

"My philosophy is if you can't get it inside five feet, shoot it outside," Strophy said.

Moses Lake continued to push the Bulldogs and at the half had tied the game at 14-14.

In the third quarter, the Chiefs fell behind before bringing the score back to a manageable 25-20.

Despite battling Pasco to the end, Moses Lake was unable to pull out the victory.

"In practice we'll be working on tougher defense," said Strophy. "We'll also be working on offensive execution. We'll be looking at our weaknesses."

Kelly Sutherland and Marielle McKean had five rebounds each in the game. McKean also had four steals.

The Chiefs shot 25 percent from the field.

"We play Davis Tuesday," Strophy said. "We got a chance to scout them, so we'll be working on that Monday too."
