Martha Martina Ohland

Martha Martina Ohland, 89, longtime Moses Lake resident passed away Wednesday at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Martha was born November 17, 1915 in Charboneau, N.D., to the late Martina and Philander Yates. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers John, George and Phil Yates, sister Ann Renaker and grandson Scott Owen.

She is survived by Hermie Ohland, husband of 69 years; daughter and family, Janet, Dean, Tina and Kevin Owen; son and family, Bill and Sherry Ohland, Tana Boole, Curt and Dusti Ohland; brother Byron Yates; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Martha graduated from Havre High School in Havre, Mont., in 1933, married her high school sweetheart, Hermie Ohland, in 1935, they then moved to Walla Walla, Wash. In 1941, they relocated to Ritzville, Wash., and settled in Moses Lake in 1953.

Martha, with her husband Hermie, opened The Towne Shop in 1959. They owned and operated the woman's boutique until 1974.

She was a loving wife, devoted mother and doting grand and great-grandmother, a charter member of Moses Lake Golf and Country Club, avid golfer, excellent "Gordon" bridge player and superior cook. Throughout the years family, friends and acquaintances all described Martha with a simple and genuine phrase "a beautiful and elegant lady." She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Private family services will be held at Kayser's Chapel of Memories.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice.

Louise E. Sorenson, 89, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Friday at Avalon Healthcare in Othello. Cremation arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel of Memories, Moses Lake.
