Some seats still open in Grant County races

GRANT COUNTY — While most races are set for elections this fall, some have yet to see a candidate.

Positions on more than 20 cemetery, hospital, port and other districts in Grant County had no candidates apply for the positions. Positions are also still open on four town and city councils throughout the county. Those aspiring candidates have one more shot next week, during a special three-day filing called by the Grant County Auditor's Office, to apply for positions no one has yet filed for.

Grant County Auditor Bill Varney issued a release Tuesday, announcing the Wednesday to Friday filing period during office hours at the Grant County Courthouse Aug. 10 to Aug. 12.

Declaration of Candidacy forms are available at the auditor's office or the Grant County Elections Office and must be filed in person or notarized and mailed to the courthouse by 5 p.m. Aug. 12. Varney said in a news release that postmarked mail received after the Friday 5 p.m. deadline will not count.

More information is available on the filing period by calling the Grant County Elections Office at 1-800-572-0119 or (509) 754-2011, Ext. 343.
