MOSES LAKE Bill Bertram is a gambling man.

With less than a minute to go in regulation and Corbin Earl setting up for a long throw from the sideline, Bertram moved all but one player into the goal box in an attempt to put Eastmont away. The result was Mick Aney scoring through traffic in a shutout victory for the Chiefs.

Mick is quick and that throw was on the beam, Bertram said of the final play that synched up the game for Moses Lake.

For 79 minutes, Moses Lake and Eastmont were deadlocked with momentum swinging freely from one side of the field to the other. But with less than seven minutes to play in the game, Corbin Earl had three attempts from the sideline to set the Chiefs up for goal opportunities and the final one paid off.

Defensively, Moses Lake keeper Joel Quevedo patrolled the box to keep Eastmont scoreless for the first time this season.

This was the best game we have had on the season, Quevedo said. There was some good shots and I was trying best to get all the shots.

Moses Lake maintained its challenge for a playoff spot, moving to 4-5 on the season and needing a win at Kennewick on Saturday to keep that hope alive. The Chiefs beat the Lions earlier this season in a non league game 3-1 on March 23 and Bertram isn t worried about pulling off another win against the second to last team in the Big Nine.

It is not the road issue that bothers us, it is Lampson Field, Bertram said. We have beat Kennewick once this year and we can do it again.
