Madson struggles in win, Anderson solid Moses Lake boys edge Eastmont, girls fall

MOSES LAKE — Patrick Anderson had one delay as rain postponed his match with Alex Merkel by more than 10 minutes.

Once the sprinkling stopped, Anderson gave up the first set to Merkel, then took over to top the No. 2 singles player from Eastmont 6-2, 6-2. Anderson's win was one of four the Chiefs were able to pull off to take the Wildcats 4-3. The Moses Lake girls team fell to Eastmont 4-3 in their match.

Anderson gave up the first game, then fell behind Merkel in game two 40-15. Anderson rallied with a slam at the net and Merkel pushed the game to deuce after returning a serve long. After two more deuce points, Anderson pulled off the win then won five of the next six games to take the first set 6-2.

Anderson continued his performance in the second set to take the match 6-2 for the win.

Robert Glaeser was the only singles player to lose for Moses Lake, falling to Eastmont's No. 1 singles player Daniel Cho 6-4, 6-1. Ben Nye defeated Devin Serndefsky 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 and Tony Holiday topped Calvin Dix 6-1, 6-3.

In doubles, Jeff Warner and Rob Leary defeated Jake Johansen and Daniel Sima 6-4, 7-5 for the lone doubles win for Moses Lake. Eastmont's Alex Dillon and Matt Lorrain won over Sam Johnson and Davie Sawyer 6-4, 6-2 and James Lawless and Cy Whitener defeated Moses Lake's Nolan Hansen and Adrian Juarez 6-3, 6-4.

On the girls' side, Gabe Madson started slow against Eastmont's Ray Foose. Foose battled from a 40-15 deficit in the first game to force two deuce points before Madson pulled off the game. After building a 4-1 lead on Foose, the Eastmont tennis player closed the gap to 5-4 before Madson could shut the door at 6-4.

Madson had an easier time in the second set, topping Foose 6-2 at Moses Lake's No. 1 singles position. Nikki Chambers followed with quick work of Alex Sitton, defeating Eastmont's No. 2 singles player in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Moses Lake's Charleen Johnson won over Karly Siroky 6-4, 6-3 for the Chiefs' final win of the match.

Lexie Graham fell to the Wildcats' Kayla Case 6-2, 6-4. In doubles, Moses Lake's Jill Baker and Deidra Kofoed lost to Michelle Merrill and Kari Roseburg 6-2, 6-1; Briar Stevens and Gwen Stoker lost to Eastmont's Lee Anna Dugger and Melody Meyer 6-2, 6-1; and Brittany Forney and Chezny Goble defeated the Chiefs' Ashley Gessel and Michelle Karr 6-0, 6-1.
