Southridge eclipses Moses Lake

It was like stepping backward for the Moses Lake soccer team.

After posting a win against Ellensburg and falling in an overtime loss to Eisenhower, Southridge shut out the Chiefs 3-0 Saturday at Lions Field. The loss left Moses Lake with a feeling of frustration.

"We weren't playing as a team and more individual," said starter Brooke Rosobrough.

"I think right from the get go it started and we couldn't get out of that hole," said Moses Lake head coach Ricardo Char. "We had great individual effort, but we didn't have 11 work together."

Southridge never let go of its grasp of the game, forcing Moses Lake into a defensive roll and putting pressure on goalkeeper Karly Lamb to protect the net.

Kelsey Bakker shot first at Lamb with a header through a clutter goal box, which Lamb dove to her left to make the save and preserve a scoreless game. Corey McNeill got past the Chiefs' defense and won the battle between her and Lamb to put Southridge up 1-0 with 27:15 left in the first half.

Ashley Montgomery followed Bakker's lead with another Southridge goal to extend the lead to 2-0 with 20 minutes to play in the first half.

"I told the girls that the first two minutes of the game, we set the pace and I think Southridge did that," Char said.

Bailey Marlow opened the second half with another attempt at Lamb, but sailed left and out of bounds. Lamb continued to fend off the Suns' attacks, finding her meetings one-on-one with the constant pursuit set up by Southridge.

Kelsey Smith gave the Suns one last goal with under two minutes remaining in the game for a 3-0 lead.

"Southridge is a good team and we beat them last year and the girls came in here today and saw otherwise," Char said.
