SEATTLE (AP) — Bobby Madritsch pitched shutout ball into the ninth inning to beat Jarrod Washburn, and the Seattle Mariners hung on to defeat the Anaheim Angels 3-2 Tuesday night.

Ichiro Suzuki got his first extra-base hit in 10 games, an RBI double in the fifth. He went 1-for-4 and with 232 hits is 25 shy of George Sisler's 84-year-old season record with 18 games left.

Pinch-hitter Randy Winn hit a two-run, two-out homer in the seventh off Brendan Donnelly after Hiram Bocachica doubled off Washburn (11-7) leading off.

Madritsch (5-2), a 28-year-old left-hander who pitched eight scoreless innings in a 7-1 win over Boston last week, didn't allow a run until Garret Anderson's one-out RBI single in the ninth. He gave up six singles, struck out seven and walked two.

J.J. Putz followed and allowed a two-out single to Bengie Molina and a run-scoring infield single to Chone Figgins. With runners on first and second, Putz retired pinch-hitter Jeff DaVanon on a lineout to Suzuki in right for his seventh save.

Anaheim, 11-4 against Seattle this season, began the night two games back of AL West-leading Oakland. The Angels remained 4 1/2 games behind Boston in the wild-card race.

Washburn gave up two runs and six hits in 6 2-3 innings, losing for the third time in four decisions. He's 4-6 since opening the season at 7-1. Notes: The Mariners have four pinch homers this the season. It was the third pinch-homer of Winn's career. … Suzuki's RBI double in the fifth ended an 0-for-23 streak by the Mariners with runners in scoring position.
