TORONTO (AP) - Ichiro Suzuki was a big hit at SkyDome.

Suzuki got three hits to finish with 56 in August, the most in a month by a major leaguer since 1936, and the Seattle Mariners rallied past the Toronto Blue Jays 7-5 Tuesday night for their season-high fifth straight victory.

The last player to get so many hits in a month was Cleveland's Roy Weatherly in July 1936.

"Of course I know him," Suzuki joked. "Who is that?"

Suzuki, chasing George Sisler's major league record for hits in a season, finished 3-for-5 and has 212 hits. Sisler got 257 hits for the St. Louis Browns in 1920.

Suzuki set a club record for hits in a month, two more than Alex Rodriguez had in August 1996. Suzuki is hitting .463 since the All-Star break, and the Mariners have 31 games left.

"I don't feel like I'm in a zone. I'm going out and doing the same things I always do," Suzuki said. "I've kind of ran out of things to say. You could say that I'm happier than happy."

After Suzuki tied it at 4 with an RBI single off Vinnie Chulk in the seventh inning, Randy Winn singled to right to give Seattle the lead.

Toronto's Alex Rios tied it at 5 with an RBI single off Jamie Moyer in the seventh, but Seattle scored twice in the eighth on Dan Wilson's RBI single off Kerry Ligtenberg (1-6) and Suzuki's run-scoring single.

"He not only got hits tonight, they were big hits," Seattle manager Bob Melvin said. "It's almost impossible to play defense against him. There are so many ways he can beat you. Watch closely here because this may not ever happen for quite some time."

Scott Atchison (2-2) pitched 1 1-3 innings for the win. J.J. Putz got his sixth save.

The Mariners won five straight for the first time since recording a nine-game winning streak from May 27-June 5, 2003.

Carlos Delgado and Eric Hinske hit consecutive homers for the Blue Jays, who have lost six of seven.

"Nobody's been able to stop him. You just hope he hits it at them," interim Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said of Suzuki. "He's good for 200-plus a year, so he's getting his in. Then you put him on AstroTurf, where the ball is even quicker, and he's tough."

Delgado hit a two-run homer off Moyer before Hinske connected, the second time this season Toronto has hit back-to-back homers.

After Rios followed with a double, Frank Menechino hit an RBI single to give Toronto a 4-0 lead.

Jose Lopez's three-run homer off Josh Towers in the fifth cut it to 4-3.

Notes: Suzuki leads the AL in multiple-hit games with 66. … Moyer has allowed a club-record 37 home runs this year, two more than Scott Bankhead gave up in 1987. … Delgado is 25-for-55 (.455) with seven home runs in his career against Moyer.
