"Here is a bit of interesting information that my dad, Herb Kent, told me after he saw the cover of your 'Little Bits & Pieces' newspaper supplement the other day.

"In 1933, during the depression, dad was in high school at Benge. Mr. H.V. Lee, the teacher at Benge, asked dad and school mate Fritz Casper to drive his, Mr. Lee's, car to Ruff to get Mrs. Lee. She was the teacher at the Ruff school.

"When dad and Fritz arrived at Ruff, the school kids there were playing baseball and, of course, they all had to come over and see the strangers who had driven into their school yard to fetch their teacher.

"Dad remembers the Ruff ball players all had homemade canvas mitts that were stuffed with straw for padding. Most of the kids during the depression played ball without a mitt. He also said he does not remember anyone in his school that had a driver's license, including he or Fritz."
