Yes, once we were the Moses Lake Herald. That was back in 1942. Read on about what was happening back some 62 years ago.

Facts from the past gleaned from the Columbia Basin Herald and The Neppel Record by Cheryl (Driggs) Elkins:

From the front page of the Herald in 1942:

Hostess to Bridge Club

"Mrs. Roberta F. Dick was hostess to the Tuesday Bridge Club serving one O'clock luncheon at her home at Cascade Valley. Honors in Contract went to Mrs. Frank T. Bell and Mrs. E. Rudloff."

Three months course offered

"The National Youths' Administration offers to all boys between the ages of 17 and 25 who are not in school, an opportunity to take a three months course of training in their Georgetown shop in Seattle.

"They pay the transportation to Seattle and give the boy $30 a month while attending school. The boy has to give back $18 a month for board and room at the N.Y.A. dormitory. A job is guaranteed to any boy completing the course, in either Boeing Aircraft or one of the shipyards, depending on the choice of the boy.

"Those boys who are interested and are in the right age limit, should see Mr. Browning of the Moses Lake schools."

County tournament dates are set

"According to an announcement last week by Phillip Manning, superintendent of schools of Ephrata, dates of the county and district basketball tournaments to be held at Ephrata had already been set by the athletic associations of high schools.

"The county tournament will be held on February 19, 20 and 21 at the Ephrata gym for the Grant County Championship. It promises to be a real contest with any one of the teams coming in on top.

"On February 27 and 28, the district Class B Championship tournament from Chelan, Okanogan, Douglas and Grant counties will be played off in the Ephrata gym and it is expected to be a thrilling and interesting contest with large crowds coming from all parts of North Central Washington districts.

"It is expected that the Moses Lake aggregation will give a good account of itself in the coming contest."
