Kaare Morgan Johnson, 22, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2004 in Everett, Wash. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at the Moses Lake Alliance Church, 1100 N. Grape Drive, with Pastor Jody Bowser officiating.

A private family committal will follow at Pioneer Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake.

Kaare was born February 20, 1982 in Enumclaw, Wash. The family lived in Enumclaw until Kaare was in his early grade school years, when they moved to Moses Lake. Kaare attended school in Moses Lake through his junior year of high school. He completed his senior year and graduated from Valley Contract High School in Spokane, where, with the help of his girlfriend and second family, he could help raise his new baby daughter, who was born January 29, 1999.

He remained in Spokane for three more years where he also welcomed a son, Jayden, on October 22, 2002.

Kaare had a passion for sports of all kinds, especially football, basketball and wrestling. He played football and basketball throughout junior high, on both park and recreation leagues and on school teams. His real loved was wrestling and he was a member of the Moses Lake Freestyle Wrestling Club from age 10-18. He was also a member of the Moses Lake High School varsity wrestling team from ninth grade through the 11th.

Kaare won numerous awards and medals for wrestling. He was a participating member of the Moses Lake High School state championship teams of 1998 and 1999 and placed fifth in the state at 135 pounds in 1999.

Kaare also had a gentle, non-competitive side. He loved listening to music, fishing with his stepdad on a quiet Saturday morning at the spillway, reading Stephen King novels, and hanging out with his friends watching movies or playing video games. He spent many hours with his basketball buds, watching his favorite team, the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

He is survived by: the love of his life, Niki Miyeko Haga and their two children, Shelbi Johnson and Jayden Johnson of Spokane; his mother and stepfather, Patti and Gene Youngblood of Moses Lake; father and stepmother, John and Dotti Johnson (and Sarah and Aaron) of Warden; paternal grandmother, Ann E. Johnson of Arizona; maternal grandparents, Margaret and Bob Trask, Sr. of Moses Lake; two sisters, Karin Johnson and Margot Johnson, both of Moses Lake; uncles and aunts, Jeff and Carol Bear of Post Falls, Idaho, Myrna Miller of California and Jeff and Cathy Johnson of Arizona; nephew, Colby Workman of Moses Lake; cousins, Andrew and Troy Bear, Mirriah Miller, Scott, Jared and Jesse Johnson; and his extended family of Spokane, Patrick and Denise McDonald, who were his second parents; their son, Skyler; Eric Hewson, Beondi Hewson, Meghan Putt and Kimi and Justin Carter; his childhood friends, Robbie Wiley, Chris Sutter, Charlie Alaniz, Derek Lehman, Robert Farias, Mario Zamora, Robert Castro, Carlos Adamy and Tyson Hintz; his mentor, coach and friend, Charlie Zamora; his beloved dog, Chinook; and countless other family members and friends who will miss him dearly, yet will always remember how his free spirit touched their lives.

Kaare was preceded in death by his Poppa, Don Miller, maternal grandfather, William Bear, paternal grandfather, Kaare Johnson, and his special wrestling buddy, Christopher Wentworth.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made for the welfare of Kaare's children, Shelbi and Jayden. "Dragon tales and the water is wide, pirates sail and lost boys fly. Fish bite moonbeams every night. The rocket racer's all tuckered out, Superman's in pajamas on the couch, goodnight moon, we'll find the mouse. God bless Mommy and matchbox cars, God bless Dad and thanks for the stars. God hears "Amen" wherever we are and I love you. Godspeed, little man, sweet dreams, little man, oh my love will fly to you each night on angels' wings. Godspeed.";;27OhmeU'u Baseview Station
