Money earmarked for local support group

MOSES LAKE — A group of six rubber stamping pals recently made moves to stamp out breast cancer.

On Oct. 29, a six-hour event was held at We Be Stampin', located at 530 W. Valley Road Suite G.

The committee of six women who sponsored the event was comprised of We Be Stampin' owner Belinda Alaniz; Jan Przybylski, a Stampin' Up! demonstrator; Moses Lake High School teacher Linda Dennis, Ephrata day care provider Linda Maas, Avon representative Michele Jansen and Lani Luna with Moses Lake Community Health.

For the first two hours, beginning at 6 p.m., 37 women who had paid a $15 admission fee listened to two guest speakers — Zola Basart, who is in charge of the Moses Lake Breast Cancer Support group, and Deeanne Anderson, who spoke as a breast cancer survivor.

From 8 p.m. until midnight, the event held a silent auction and boasted 12 project tables, where everyone that attended got to make such stamping items as scrapbook pages, greeting cards and gift bags, Przybylski said.

The total amount of money raised was $1,218.50, and it was presented Tuesday night to the Moses Lake Cancer Foundation at a meeting of the local Breast Cancer Support Group. The money was earmarked for the support group, which will be able to use the money to support breast cancer patients and provide information on where to get emotional and physical support.

"It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we just wanted to help the cause," Przybylski said, in reference to October. "We felt compelled to do our part."
