Public can view Apple Cup 2004 from Port lawn

Start watching the skies.

Chapter 67 of the International Aerobatics Club is sponsoring their regional aerobatic contest, Apple Cup 2004, at the Ephrata Airport Thursday through Sunday.

There will be five categories of powered aircraft — basic, sportsman, intermediate, advance and unlimited. The top three winners in each category will take home prize money and a trophy.

Registration and practice flights are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. The competition will be Friday and Saturday. Sunday is expected to be a rain day in case of bad weather.

The public will have the best viewing from the lawn or parking lot next to the Port office building. Aircraft will taxi to the runway from that location and all maneuvers will take place in the air opposite the Port office.

An introduction to aerobatics, including a description of the basic maneuvers, will be available from the Port office. For further information, call the Port of Ephrata at 754-3508.
