| May 17, 2004 9:00 PM

Mildred Berschauer, 90, a 40-year Ephrata resident, died Saturday, May 15, 2004 in Central Washington Hospital following a brief illness.

Mildred was born April 27, 1914 in Algona, Iowa to Melvin and Lena Lyon. She moved with her parents to Tumwater, Wash. in the early 1930s and married Manuel Berschauer on September 10, 1936.

They later moved to South Bay, south of Olympia, where she and Manuel operated a dairy and chicken farm. They built South Bay Hardware in 1945 and operated the store until 1954 when the family moved to Ephrata.

Mildred was involved in the Memorial Christian Church, Lady Elks, Christian Women's Fellowship, League of Women Voters and the Ephrata Bowling League.

Mildred was most happy when she was surrounded by family and friends. A great delight was having her family home for Sunday dinner. She was famous for her chicken dinners and chocolate cake. Many will remember Mildred for the countless hours that she spent at local high school basketball and baseball games. She loved watching her boys and grandchildren in all their activities.

All who loved her will remember that she was a dedicated and supportive mother and grandmother. She was our number one fan.

Survivors include: four sons, Jerry and Donnelle of Entiat, Tom and Shirley of Omak, Jim and Marylin of Ephrata and Ron and Kathy of East Wenatchee; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel, her mother and father, her brothers, Dwight, Melvin "Bud", and William, her sister, Helen and great-grandchild, Hannah Faith.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Christian Church.

Arrangements are by Nicoles Funeral Home, Ephrata.
