Bacon seeks location of namesake town

This column has the ability to link the past with the present. In fact we have accomplished such feats many times.

The latest effort comes with an inquiry from a man who now lives in Arizona. Here is his letter:

"Dear Dennis,

"The Chamber of Commerce of Moses Lake gave me your name regarding Bacon, Wash.

"Back in the early '70's I was in Moses Lake and read an article written by a reporter from the local newspaper who walked the railroad tracks toward Bacon. The article went on to say that he stopped his walk as he ran into too many rattlesnake nests.

"I have never been able to find out any more information on the town that bore the same name as mine. I would appreciate any information, Dennis, that you are able to pass on, including the railroad that ran to, or through Bacon.

"I appreciate the information that Mrs. Stern of the Chamber passed on to me, as well as, your e-mail address, and I look forward to any information you are able to pass on.

"Thanks for your help, John Bacon

P.S. I was involved with the third power house at the dam during the 70's."

Thanks for writing, John. I was able to locate a railroad map which shows a town of Bacon between Adrian and Coulee City, notice the location on the map, above right.

I've been wanting to go looking for rattlesnakes anyway, perhaps a hike to try and locate the townsite is in order.

Is there anyone who can fill us in on the history of the town of Bacon?
