Miriam Kathryn Washburn
Miriam Kathryn Washburn, of Royal City, Wash., passed away in Moses Lake, Wash. on April 30, 2004 at the age of 84.
Miriam was born March 29, 1920 in Elsinore, Utah to Erastus and Lydia (English) Madsen.
A talented musician, she met her husband, Tyrus Elmo Washburn, in high school band. They married in Farmington, Utah on May 25, 1938 and were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She devoted her life to homemaking and raising a family of six children. After living in Utah and Idaho, she moved in 1969 to Royal City, where Tyrus farmed until his death in 1990.
An avid student of natural history, geology, horticulture and wildlife, Miriam shared her love of nature as a Cub Scout leader for many years. She also served for many years in the Church Relief Society. She loved flowers and kept a huge varied garden. She also raised a variety of barnyard fowl.
Miriam is survived by: three sons, Alan T. (Linda) Washburn of South Jordan, Utah, Daniel E. (Bonnie) Washburn of Boise, Idaho and Robyn P. (Candace) Washburn of Batesville, Ind.; two daughters, Janet I. Washburn and Iris K. (Michael) McCubbins, both of Royal City; 30 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Laurel K. (John) Christiansen.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 5, at the Royal Camp chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Michael Christensen presiding. Internment was in Royal Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements were made by Stevens Funeral Chapel, Othello. Memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
