| June 9, 2004 9:00 PM

Evelyn A. Poff, 82, longtime Moses Lake resident, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, June 6, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital.

Evelyn was born on December 27, 1921 in Herscher, Ill., the daughter of Herman John and Meta Elizabeth Schlaich. She grew up in Herscher and graduated from high school in 1939. She met her future husband, Lawrence H. Poff at a baseball game in Herscher in 1941, and they were married on September 11, 1942.

Evelyn and her husband, a career Air Force man, raised four children while living at various bases throughout the western United States. They moved to Moses Lake in 1991.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Meta, five brothers, Orval, Arnold, Lavern, Lester and Oliver Schlaich, a sister, Elvera Ferden, all of Herscher, and a daughter, Elizabeth Marie of South Dakota.

She is survived by: her husband of 61 years; three children and their spouses, Larry and Cindy Poff and Barbara and Lars Johnson of Moses Lake, and Michael and Candi Poff of Cheney; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Evelyn loved to crochet and make things for children. She made toys and purses that she always carried with her to give to children wherever she met them.

Evelyn was deeply loved and admired by all her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with a great sense of humor. We miss her greatly.

At her request, no funeral services will be held. Visitation for family and friends will take place at Kayser's Chapel of Memories on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 from noon until 7 p.m. Interment and private burial services will be held at a later date in Pioneer Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donors' favorite charity.
