Another Chamberlain is going to play for Marshall University.

Sarah Chamberlain spent three years playing softball for the division-I program, now, sister Amanda joins the Thundering Herd for the next two years.

"Mainly, because I know it is a good place to go because my sister went there," Chamberlain said.

She finished two years with North Idaho College as a two-year starter at the catcher position, finishing her sophomore season with a .300 batting average. She also moved from eighth in the batting lineup to second.

But, her defense is what she has prided her self on.

"Most coaches say the pitcher and catcher are the battery of the team," Chamberlain said. "I am the one who keeps runners from advancing from base to base and from scoring. Usually, the catcher is the team leader."

Chamberlain was recruited after her freshman year at North Idaho, but finished her two year season with the Cardinals to be closer to family. Her decision to play with the Thundering Herd was made easier with the presence of her sister Sarah, who is finishing her degree at Marshall.

"I think it had a big impact because I was also recruited by Eastern Oregon and I probably would go there if my sister wasn't at Marshall," Chamberlain said.

Chamberlain, a graduate from Moses Lake High School, finished her senior year of high school with .381 batting average and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. She was named all conference Big Nine catcher of the year and 2002 Big Nine defensive player of the year.

In a press release, Marshall head coach Shonda Stanton said Chamberlain provides depth at the catcher position. She added, "we know she'll work hard for us and do what is needed to win."

While at North Idaho, Chamberlain was recognized for her work behind the plate, receiving second team Scenic West Athletic Conference honors her sophomore year and was nominated female athlete of the year for North Idaho College.

"I think there will be a struggle, but I am a team player and will do my part from the field to the bench," Chamberlain said.
