Chelan got the best of the Moses Lake girls basketball tournament on Saturday, defeating the Chiefs 49-21 in the finals.

Chelan, returning 2A state champs, went a perfect 6-0 in the tournament, while Moses Lake finished 4-2 with both losses coming to state champion teams.

"I am just extremely pleased and this last game, our team was tired, but we had great execution the entire tournament," coach Matt Strophy said.

Moses Lake finished the round-robin with a 3-1 record, losing to the 1A state champion Colfax Bulldogs. In the championship bracket, Wenatchee and Moses Lake went head-to-head for a shot at the championship game.

The Panthers scored 10 unanswered points to start the first quarter before Mirielle McKean scored the first basket for Moses Lake. McKenzie McKean added four points in the quarter as Wenatchee had a commanding 14-8 lead to end the first.

Wenatchee continued to pull away from the Chiefs, opening the second quarter on a 5-2 run. Moses Lake sparked life when Bailey Millican picked a steal and fed McKenzie McKean for a fastbreak basket.

Wenatchee went into halftime with a 22-15 lead.

The second half belonged to Moses Lake, who outscored the Panthers 18-3 to pull off the 33-25 come-from-behind win. Led by McKenzie McKean, who finished the game with 13 points.

Moses Lake's defense held its fifth opponent of the tournament to under 25 points and set themselves up for a match against Chelan in the finals. The goats finished the tournament with a 49-21 win over Moses Lake.

Strophy said the tournament was a good "tune up" for the Chiefs who have three weeks left in the season. From the defense to the offense, he called it a complete team effort.

"I would like to single out a handful of players, but all of the girls played extremely well," Strophy added.
