Lena Unruh

Lena Unruh, 101, Warden resident, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Summerwood Special Care in Moses Lake.

She was born December 12, 1902 in Waukomis, Okla. to Abraham Wiens and Mary Brown Wiens.

She married Edwin Unruh on June 5, 1925 in Enid, Okla. After 70 years of marriage, her husband preceded Lena in death in 1995.

Lena and Edwin farmed in Hillsboro, Kan. until 1960, when they moved to Warden, Wash. While living in Warden, Lena was a member of the Warden Mennonite Church. She taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school and did a lot of quilting with the Mennonite Women's Group.

She loved flowers, gardening and raising strawberries, and was a member of the Warden Garden Club.

Lena and her husband returned to Kansas to retire in 1973. After Edwin's death, she moved back to Washington in 1997 to be near her son, John.

Survivors include: one sister, Elizabeth Regier; a son and daughter-in-law, John M. and Marlene Unruh of Warden; a daughter and son-in-law, Lois M. and Richard Reimer of Smithville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

She was preceded in death by one son, James A. Unruh in 1974, three brothers, Abe, John and Henry Wiens, and two sisters, Mary Enns and Eva Neufeld.

A memorial service will be held at the Warden Mennonite Church on Tuesday, May 27 at 2 p.m.

Burial will follow in Hillsboro, Kan. on Saturday, July 31.
